Create colorful bioplastic suncatchers that capture light and add a touch of calm to your home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 part unflavored gelatin powder
  • 4 parts distilled water
  • Glycerin or vegetable glycerin
  • Liquid food coloring or diluted watercolors
  • Shallow silicone mold or flat baking tray lined with parchment
  • Heatproof glass bowl
  • Small saucepan
  • Wooden skewers or toothpick
  • Small brushes or droppers
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Dried leaves, pressed flowers, or translucent paper (optional)
  • Parchment paper or silicone mat

Instructions

  1. Gather your materials and set up a calm workspace.
  2. Measure gelatin and water.
  3. Melt the gelatin gently over a double boiler.
  4. Add glycerin and stir.
  5. Mix color separately and combine.
  6. Pour slowly into molds or onto lined tray.
  7. Use a skewer to pop bubbles and arrange inclusions.
  8. Let the sheets cool and set at room temperature.
  9. Peel off parchment and trim edges.
  10. Hang and admire, or let layers cure longer for durability.
  11. Clean up gently.
  12. Sing praise to your hands.

Notes

Store flat pieces in a cool, dry place and avoid direct heat.
