A soothing DIY project to grow beautiful crystal formations on a heart-shaped frame using simple materials.

Ingredients

  • Clear glass or plastic heart ornament
  • Borax powder or baking soda
  • Hot water
  • A heat-safe jar
  • String or thin fishing line
  • Small spoon or stirring stick
  • Measuring cup
  • A pencil or chopstick
  • Paper towel or cloth
  • Optional: food coloring, glitter, or a small LED tealight

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace in a calm, stable spot.
  2. Warm a cup or two of water until comfortably hot.
  3. Dissolve your chosen powder into the hot water.
  4. Test saturation carefully.
  5. Place the heart on a clean surface to be ready for hanging.
  6. Tie a short length of string to the heart.
  7. Suspend the heart in the jar.
  8. Pour the warm solution into the jar around the hanging heart.
  9. Find a quiet place to let the jar rest undisturbed.
  10. Watch and wait with small check-ins.

Notes

Borax forms larger, clearer crystals faster than baking soda, which tends to create softer, more powdery crystals. Handle with care, especially if using borax.
