Ingredients

  • Clean, empty plastic bottle (soda or water bottle)
  • Scissors
  • Paint or permanent markers
  • Paintbrush (optional)
  • Googly eyes (optional)
  • Pipe cleaners (for antennae)
  • Glue (craft or hot glue)
  • Glitter or sequins (optional)
  • Clear varnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Remove the label from your plastic bottle and rinse it out to make sure it’s clean and dry.
  2. Cut the bottle in half lengthwise using scissors.
  3. Take the top half of the bottle and cut the edges to form wings.
  4. If desired, use paint or markers to add color to your wings.
  5. Allow the wings to dry completely.
  6. Once the wings are dry, attach googly eyes using glue.
  7. Cut two pieces of pipe cleaner and bend them into shape for the antennae.
  8. Sprinkle glitter or glue on sequins to your wings if you want to add sparkle.
  9. Apply a clear varnish if desired to protect your butterfly.
