Ingredients

- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 2–4 tbsp water
- A few drops of food coloring (multiple colors)
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- Thick white paper, cardstock, or watercolor paper
- Small bowls or muffin tin for each color
- Paintbrushes or droppers
- Small spray bottles, pipettes, or droppers
- Tray or baking sheet (to catch mess)
Instructions
- Make the Fizzy Paint: In each small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 1–2 teaspoons of water to create a paint-like paste. Add food coloring to each to make different colored paints and stir well.
- Set Up the Painting Station: Place a sheet of paper on a tray or rimmed surface to catch overflow. Set out the fizzy paints, brushes, and vinegar-filled spray bottles.
- Paint Time: Kids can use paintbrushes or droppers to apply the baking soda paint to the paper. They can create designs, splatters, or thick globs of color!
- Add the Fizz: Once painting is done, use droppers or spray bottles to apply vinegar to the painting and watch as the colors foam, bubble, and fizz.
- Let Dry & Display: Allow the artwork to air dry completely to get a unique textured painting with cool craters and color blending!
Notes
Use thicker paper for stronger texture. Store leftover baking soda paint in airtight containers for a day or two.
