Create a beautiful crystal heart using simple materials and a gentle process that invites patience and creativity.

Ingredients

  • Heart-shaped mold or cookie cutter
  • Borax powder or baking soda
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Clear glass jar or heat-safe container
  • String or thin wire
  • Pencil or chopstick
  • Hot water
  • Food coloring or liquid dye (optional)
  • Gloves and eye protection (optional)
  • Paper towel and small tray for drying
  • Small bowl for mixing (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace and tools by laying down a towel and gathering all materials.
  2. Heat water until warm but not boiling; pour it into your jar.
  3. Add borax or baking soda slowly to the water and stir until dissolved.
  4. If using dye, mix a small amount into a bowl of the solution and return it to the jar.
  5. Tie string around the heart mold and secure it to a pencil; ensure it hangs freely in the jar.
  6. Lower the heart into the solution and rest the pencil on the jar rim.
  7. Leave the jar undisturbed in a warm, draft-free spot for several hours or overnight.
  8. Once the crystals feel firm, gently lift the heart out and let it dry.
  9. If soft spots appear, dip it again in a new saturated solution for added texture.
  10. Once dry, display your heart in light to enjoy the beauty of the crystals.

Notes

Feel free to experiment with different heart sizes and colors. Use baking soda for a softer, matte look if borax doesn’t suit your needs.
