A fun and engaging DIY experiment using baking soda and vinegar to explore chemical reactions while creating a whimsical balloon display.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 balloon
  • 4 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 1 small funnel or a piece of paper
  • 1 cup of vinegar
  • 1 small empty bottle or jar
  • A cloth for clean-up

Instructions

  1. Begin by pouring 4 tablespoons of baking soda into your balloon using the funnel or rolled paper.
  2. Once the baking soda is inside, gently stretch the neck of the balloon and set it aside.
  3. Next, pour 1 cup of vinegar into the small bottle or jar.
  4. Carefully lift the balloon back above the bottle to avoid spilling the baking soda.
  5. Once you’re ready, release the neck of the balloon so the baking soda falls into the vinegar.
  6. Watch the balloon slowly inflate as the reaction creates carbon dioxide gas.
  7. After the balloon is fully inflated, enjoy the wonder of your creation.
